THE IMPORTANCE OF INTEGRATION IN HOMEOPATHIC PRACTICE
Since Dr. Samuel Hahnemann’s time, many eminent homoeopaths have contributed and expanded the basic principles of homoeopathy with outstanding results. One such contribution to the advancement of homoeopathy is the Sensation Method.
Originated by Dr. RajanSankaran and his colleagues, the Sensation Method is a path-breaking methodology that has revolutionized the practice of homoeopathy. The Sensation Method has also evolved a systematic approach of understanding homoeopathic remedies. Remedies are understood at a much deeper level, and they are not just as a random collection of symptoms. Each remedy is understood in totality from the point of view of Kingdoms, Sub-kingdoms, Miasm classification, and Levels of Experience. The Sensation Method further evolved where it has simplified the art and practice of homoeopathy – this concept is coined as ‘The Synergy in Homoeopathy’.
Like Dr. Sankaran, we have other eminent homeopaths that have contributed immensely to the field of Homeopathy. One such practitioner is Dr. Sarkar with a completely different school of thought. Dr.Sarkar’s method of practice simple and comprehensive. He focuses on the most characteristic symptoms in the case. These characteristic symptoms can come in the form of Keynote(s), rubrics, themes, pathologies, or even a sensation. His method requires thorough knowledge of the material medica. Dr. Sarkar has an extensive clinical practice with a daily OPD of about 200 patients. He witnesses many severe, deep seated, pathological cases. He believes in cases where characteristics are not well elicited, one cannot rely on a single remedy to work. Here comes the role of other remedies, like sarcodes, allopathic drugs, Indian drugs, biochemical drugs, organ-specific drugs. He focuses on the current symptom totality and then prescribes a remedy closest to that totality.
In addition to these stalwarts, we also have Dr. Sujit Chatterjee who is known for treating many cancer patients by integrating both the traditional classical homeopathy and the ‘Sensation’ method. Dr. Jayesh Shah, who is known for his Meditative approach in practice, guides the patient through a meditative process to elicit their innermost state of being and explore his experience.
What is important for us as practitioners is the application of the above-mentioned methods in practice. After having witnessed the masters with their methodologies, one has to artistically put them together in practice. This is possible through an integration of different methods.
In short, our method of choice will depend upon the case before us. In a case of deep pathology, with few characteristic and mainly keynote symptoms, one may opt to use Dr. Sarkar’s method. In a case where we can the complete case with characteristic symptoms at mental, physical and general level, where we see the symptoms and system coming together, we can solve it synergistically.
In conclusion, different methodologies can be used as various tools in practice and each can be utilized as when it is called for. This will enable practitioners to broaden the horizon and confidently take a variety of cases.
