Homeopathy for tongue cancer A 48-year-old male patient diagnosed with grade 2 squamous cell carcinoma of the tongue with metastasis to the neighboring lymph nodes was consulted at ‘the other song’ by Dr. Sujit Chatterjee, Consultant and Faculty, in May 2012. The patient was advised resection of the tongue as a part of the treatment by the oncosurgeon. The patient was very anxious and wanted to avoid the surgery as resection of tongue would cause loss of speech.
The patient had already undergone 4 cycles of chemotherapy and 29 cycles of radiation with no significant change in the tumor mass. He suffered also from side effects of these therapies in the form of lost appetite, weakness, sleeplessness. On examination, more than half of the tongue was ulcerated, inflamed, disfigured.
The patient experienced tremendous pain while eating, which was worse on swallowing the food. The pain radiated to the ears and head. The food would also get stuck on the tongue on account of the ulcer. As a result of pain and side effect of chemotherapy, his appetite was lost and his sleep was very disturbed.
